Chapter 3

T-they were fairies! Little fairies with wings, and dresses, and so much glitter! I was in awe of them, and quickly realized they felt the same way about me.  I looked up and began to climb the rocks and vines until I reached the spot in the bush where they were.  They were only an inch tall, and I was a little less than three inches tall, or so I assumed.  I stared at them for a good few moments before they fluttered over towards me.  The first to approach was a very small framed fairy with thin, sparkly pink wings.  She had on a bright pink strapless dress made of a calla lily petal.  She wore tiny sandals made out of pink and sparkly vines; her hair was golden blonde like the sun, and was slightly curled.  As I scrutinized her closer I saw her brilliant, sapphire blue eyes and noticed how her hair was pulled up into a high ponytail that literally stood on the top of her head.  She was fair skinned and had small lips with a wide, cheery smile across them.  Quickly she zipped over to me until she was right in my face; her eyes wide, she started to talk.

“Hi! I’m Nixie! What are you wearing?! I’ve never seen clothes that were not made of something other than vines, feathers, flower petals, or spider silks! It’s beautiful! And-phew! Sorry! I’ve never met someone like you!” she laughed and smiled wider at me.

I giggled quietly at her rambling on about how she’d never seen clothes or dresses made out of cotton before.  Her voice was high and squeaky as I smiled in reply,

“Hi, I’m Annabelle…”

I spoke softly since I had no idea if they could understand what I was saying.  I also did not want to scare them off.  At the corner of my eye I saw another fairy approach me.  She definitely wasn’t as bubbly as Nixie was, that was for sure, but she did look friendly as well.

This fairy also had a tiny body frame, and her skin was lightly tanned.  She wore a bright yellow dress which appeared to be made of sunflower petals; cut right above her knees.  She had tiny flats on her feet, which were actually hollowed out sunflower seeds with a dash of glitter on them.  Her wings were about the same size of Nixie’s, but yellow, and a bit less glittery.  Her hair was a light brown, almost cinnamon color; it was braided to her left side, and laid gently over her shoulder.  It also had little bits of pollen and flower petals in it.  Her deep brown eyes widened as she looked up at me and smiled a small smile.

“H-hi…I’m Liliana…”

She mumbled quietly, then looked back at the ground.  Her voice was soft and sweet, like a mother soothing her young child.  I smiled back before noticing one more fairy…but this one; she was different.

Chapter 2

As I was attempting to take in all of this, I had no idea what was watching me from the safety of a nearby bush.

“Let me see! Let me see!” the tiny girl squealed and jumped eagerly.

“Shhh! Nixie you’ll get us spotted!” the other girl said sternly, with her arms crossed over her chest and her back against a rock.

“Lighten up Azura, it’s not like she will see us over here,” the first girl, named Nixie giggled as she elbowed Azura in the arm.

“Dial it down perky pants,” Azura scoffed.

“Girls stop, you’ll get us all in trouble,” a third girl named Liliana whispered from behind a leaf.  Nixie giggled and looked over at Azura,

“See, Lil agrees with me, now sit still so I can get a better look!” Nixie chuckled and began climbing over Azura to see this new person.

“Well, at least I wasn’t the one who went over my lady bug limit this month, and ow! You’re on my wings!” Azura sneered under her breath.

“Hey! I couldn’t help it, mother was sending me bug chats, and I had to respond!” Nixie smiled at Azura and Liliana.

“Uh huh, sure you did,” Azura said in a mocking voice.

“Oh be quiet,” Nixie giggled.

“Now, I’m going to meet that person!” Nixie exclaimed and prepared to leave the bush.

“Oh no you don’t! Are you insane? What if she wants to kill us?” Azura said frustratingly and clenched her tiny fist.

“She’s not going to kill us, and besides, she looks pretty harmless to me.” Nixie smiled before sitting on the edge of the leaf and stared at Annabelle from a distance.

“Just wait until the queen hears about this!” Azura said, raising her voice.

“Azura, stop.  You’ll get us all seen before Nixie does at this rate.” Liliana spoke shyly and looked down.

I heard their whispering voices as I walked over to a nearby bush, and that’s when I found who was making those noises….

Chapter 1

Chapter 1

“Ugh…,” I moaned slightly as I sat up and rubbed my head.  I had no idea what just happened, but whatever it was, it sure was a pain in the neck.  Literally.  My vision was slightly blurred and I blinked several times before looking down at my hands and feet.  Yup, everything looked normal, but it wasn’t until I stood to my feet that I realized I shouldn’t have said that.  I brushed out the leaves and twigs which had got tangled up in my mid back length brown hair before looking around.  I began walking on the colored pebble ground, and that was when everything changed.  I slowly tilted my head upwards and fell back onto the ground in shock.  Either this was the world’s tallest tree…or…no, it couldn’t be.  I quickly scrambled over to the nearest piece of grass, and as I looked up at this seven foot high green stalk which was one of the many I was surrounded by, I realized it was true, I had shrunk!

“Eek!” I screamed a high pitch scream as I began to pinch my arm.

“No! No! This can’t be true! I must be dreaming!”

I kept shaking my head and wondering back and forth for what seemed like hours before I fell to the ground and cried.  Moments passed, as I eventually got up from the ground once again, fixed the skirt of my dress, and looked around desperately for a way out of whatever was happening.  My hair and outfit certainly hadn’t changed at all.  Still brown hair, and my taupe colored sundress.  I didn’t understand this at all; what, how, and why had all of this happened to me?

Finally I sighed and walked deeper into this strange forest…everything looked different, but somehow, I knew this different.  The pink, lavender, gold, mint green, and sky blue pebbles; the baby pink, scarlet, crimson, and yellow sky; the trees with their leaves lined in crystals…this wasn’t an ordinary forest.  This was the forest my mother told me about when I was little!

Prologue

Prologue

It makes me wonder and think back on the days when I could go outside, on a bright sunny day, and not have a care in the world of what could possibly be out there. How was that even possible? Anyway, so here I am, my wrists and ankles chained against a wall and just arrested for something I can’t control.  This is my story, and welcome to it.  Now, let me introduce myself; I’m Annabelle.  I’m thirteen years old and I have a secret.  What is this secret you might ask? I’m not saying anything, it’s called a secret for a reason.

I’m guessing all of you want to know a bit about me, huh? Well, I suppose I could tell you guys a bit about myself.  As I said earlier, I’m Annabelle I’m thirteen years old, and I’ve just been arrested. Yeah, not the happiest story yet, but it gets better before you know why I’m at this point in my life.  When I was born my mother would tell me stories about worlds beyond ours; with bizarre creatures, fairies, and a lot more which I don’t remember much of.  Around the time I was five years old or so, I began to try to draw these little creatures my mother told me about.  I had a very big imagination, and I’m guessing the reason I do is from my mother herself.  Or so my mother said.  I admired my mother as if she were a hero to me, but shortly after I turned eight, she died and daddy was never the same after that.

Growing up wasn’t the easiest, but me and my daddy were very close and I loved him dearly.  It took us a few years to understand that mother was gone, and the two of us needed to move on with life, even if she wasn’t there.  My father didn’t believe in the creatures, fairies, and the worlds beyond ours like mother did.  He never told the stories anymore, so I made my own up of what those worlds would be like, which gave me a bit of fun and brought happiness in my life.  Though in one brief moment my life changed…forever.
