Prologue

          It makes me wonder and think back on the days when I could go outside, on a bright sunny day, and not have a care in the world of what could possibly be out there. How was that even possible? Anyway, so here I am, my wrists and ankles chained against a wall and just arrested for something I can’t control.  This is my story, and welcome to it.  Now, let me introduce myself; I’m Annabelle.  I’m thirteen years old and I have a secret.  What is this secret you might ask? I’m not saying anything, it’s called a secret for a reason.

            I’m guessing all of you want to know a bit about me, huh? Well, I suppose I could tell you guys a bit about myself.  As I said earlier, I’m Annabelle I’m thirteen years old, and I’ve just been arrested. Yeah, not the happiest story yet, but it gets better before you know why I’m at this point in my life.  When I was born my mother would tell me stories about worlds beyond ours; with bizarre creatures, fairies, and a lot more which I don’t remember much of.  Around the time I was five years old or so, I began to try to draw these little creatures my mother told me about.  I had a very big imagination, and I’m guessing the reason I do is from my mother herself.  Or so my mother said.  I admired my mother as if she were a hero to me, but shortly after I turned eight, she died and daddy was never the same after that.

            Growing up wasn’t the easiest, but me and my daddy were very close and I loved him dearly.  It took us a few years to understand that mother was gone, and the two of us needed to move on with life, even if she wasn’t there.  My father didn’t believe in the creatures, fairies, and the worlds beyond ours like mother did.  He never told the stories anymore, so I made my own up of what those worlds would be like, which gave me a bit of fun and brought happiness in my life.  Though in one brief moment my life changed…forever.
